8. School lunch

Children of the world eat the school lunch. As for the school lunch, nourishment management and hygiene management are substantial. The beginning of Japanese school lunch is the Nara era. And the school lunch is continues until the present age.

The school lunch prevents the lifestyle-related disease. And it forms dietary habits. The Japanese school lunch is eaten from a kindergarten to a junior high school. The school lunch was stopped all over the wartime, but it was reopened by support of America. By rapid economic growth, the school lunch of Japan developed. By a season and an annual function, a menu changes. As for the school lunch, food culture changed by the times. Therefore the school lunch can know a difference and the history of the generation. There is the place where local cooking and a luxurious dish are provided depending on an area. The recent school lunch can eat a foreign dish. In addition, there is the place providing the vegetables which a child made at school with school lunch. The school lunch is distributed by a child.


The school lunch is good, but there are problems. It is that there are children leaving school lunch. And there is the problem of school lunch costs, too. The school lunch is not free. A parent bears it. But there is the parent who does not pay school lunch costs. Therefore quality of the school lunch is down. The school reuse the leftover food of the school lunch as manure. There are three causes of the leftover food of the school lunch. One, food are likes and dislikes. Two, rice do not be popular. Three, there is the student who does not think school lunch to be delicious.


I compare the school lunch of all the countries of the world.
In Japan, rice and a fish are the center.
In Korea, vegetables are the center. It is kimchi in particular.
In the U.K., taste of the material is kept alive.
In France, French fries are the center. And the dessert is substantial, too.
In Kenya, avocado is the center.
In Ghana, rice is only.
In the United States, oil is the center.
In Brazil, a bean is the center.
The school lunch of Japan is blessed when I compare the school lunch of each country. And it is abundant nourishment. The school lunch of each country of each country is characteristic.

"Recommended Blog"

I introduce about Suzuka's writing blogs. She writes blog about tennis. I introduce about Suzuka. Her native place is Ibaraki. She is Tsukuba University student. She comes to the school by car. She plays tennis from the elementary school. Her competition years is about 12 years. She has results of the seventh place in a tournament in Japan.



She introduces tennis by seven topics. I introduce some of these. The first about the kind of the coat. The tennis court is four kinds. There is "hard court" and "clay court" and "grass court" and "omni court". The hard court is made with asphalt. The clay court is made with soil. The grass court is made with grass. The omni coat is made with grass and soil. She is good at hard court. Because she can hit a ball at fast speed.



Next, I introduce play style of the tennis. There are four kinds of play style of the tennis. There are "Aggressive Baseliner" and "Counter Puncher" and "Serve and Volleyer" and "All-Arounder". Her play style is an all-rounder. She said that she is good at the powerful play like the boy.

7.Unpopular Japanese food

I introduce unpopular Japanese foods from a foreigner. I introduce natto first. Natto is unsightly and the foreigner says that a smell is bad. Why do you think almost foreigner dislike natto? The reason is fermented food. But the natto is a health food. The natto is made of soybeans. Natto is got close as local cooking in Japan. Natto was used for Japan as a military meal at wartime time. You can get an effect by eating natto. The bowels get better. A bone is made. I want foreigners to eat natto by all means.


Next, I introduce a sea urchin. The sea urchin is one of the Japanese three major delicacies. It is a processed sea urchin. And it is a sea urchin produced in Fukui. The seasonal time is autumn from spring. The Japanese people often eats sea urchin with sushi. But the sea urchin is unpopular with foreigners. An appearance and the smell of the sea urchin are not liked. It has resistance that the foreigner eats sea urchin raw. A texture and the taste of the sea urchin are not popular, too. I think so too. I have eaten sea urchin. I did not think that a sea urchin was delicious. I do not recommend it personally.


The third, I introduce umeboshi. The umeboshi is a kind of the pickles. Umeboshi is a health food. The umeboshi is made from a plum. As for the history of the plum, China is autochthonism. The ancient Chinese people used the plum as Chinese medicine than food. In Japan of the age of civil strife, they used umeboshi as a preservation meal. In addition, they used it as food poisoning and disease prevention. In Japan of modern times, umeboshi were loved as taste of the hometowns by soldiers. In Showa period, lunch box of rice and umeboshi became basic. The preservation characteristics of the umeboshi are high. If the preservation environment of the umeboshi is good, we can eat even the umeboshi 100 years ago. The umeboshi is food with the friendly feeling for a Japanese. But a foreigner does not like umeboshi. Umeboshi is sour. And a smell is no use. And an appearance is bad. It is unpopular from a foreigner for such a reason. I play sports. When I was tired, I eat umeboshi. Umeboshi is effective in relieving fatigue. Please eat umeboshi. Please eat Japanese foods. Please do not dislike Japanese foods.

6.Animation/Manga

The meal manga is written about food. The manga is written a social problem, an environmental problem, the culture about the meal. There are the manga that wrote the recipe of the dish. The beginning of meal comics is 1970. I introduce Japanese meal manga.
In Japan of the 1980s, a gourmet boom was born. It is comics to have got on the flow. The name of manga is "Oishinbo". Wide food including Japanese style and the Western style is introduced. The sales of the book broke through million books. "Oishinbo" has high popularity and is unfolded in an animated cartoon and a drama.


I introduce different manga. The name of manga is "Cooking Papa". This manga was published serially in 1986. It is sold to 125 volumes now. It is homey manga. "Cooking Papa" is introduced with a recipe and the picture of the dish every one episode. The stage of the story is Japan. A restaurant, a sightseeing spot, the festival, of various parts of Japan is introduced. The ingredients of the dish are introduced by high-quality food and the cheap food. This manga became the animated cartoon, too.


These two are published serially from old days. I have read a cooking papa. This manga are very interesting. "Araiwa" of the chief character can make a dish. But wife can not cook a dish. "Araiwa" which is a husband is manga to make a dish. He is good at cooking a dish and seems to be very delicious. How to make is written and can easily make it. The advice is written, too. "Cooking Papa" introduce a lot of dishes with the idea. I can make it very happily. I think an animated cartoon may be more interesting. Speaking of a recent gourmet animated cartoon, "toriko". Finally I introduce "toriko".

"Toriko" is the battle comics that featured the theme of a meal. The ingredients are fanciful. It is sold about 20 million copies. Contents of manga is capture ingredients and gather. I have looked by manga and an animation. An animation is more interesting than manga. It is more powerful than manga.


Manga is Japanese culture. There is a lot of other manga. Please read Japanese manga. Please be interested in meal manga. You can have new knowledge by reading a meal manga. I think that there is new discovery.

5.Nutrition

As you know, Japanese food is little oil and healthy. It is the reason why Japanese foods became the boom. Japanese food is easy to take balance of the nourishment. And the side dish of the Japanese food has many vegetables and a fish and a bean product. Therefore it is said that Japan is a world's best longevity country. Japan is said to have little obesity population.
There is a reason why Japanese foods are healthy. It is because there is not the rich naturally comfortable country as Japan. Japan can obtain many ingredients from a mountain and a river, the sea and the plains. The seasonal ingredients are available throughout the year, too. Japanese food is high in nutritive value, therefore it is hard to get sick. Japanese food is high in nutritive value and is hard to get sick. And the Japanese foods prevent the lifestyle-related disease.


This is an ideal meal, lipid of 25%, carbohydrates of 60%, protein of 15%. The thing which is indispensable to our life is miso. Miso is healthy and it is popular abroad. The miso is made of soybeans. Soy sauce and the tofu are made of soybeans, too. Soybeans are Japanese traditional food. The soybean has abundant protein and lipid. The Japanese traditional food is good at brain and the health. High quality protein and vitamins are included in rice. Rice is a good nourishing food of the balance very. Fish is included an abundant nutrient too.


I talk about the experience that visited in the foreign country. There are every meal French fries. There is the dessert, too. There is little quantity of the salad, and a deep-fried food dish is the center. In addition, there was a lot bread and drink sweet. I came for an international game in the foreign country. Physical condition management was difficult and has decreased to the weight. Because the nourishment balance of the Japanese food was good, and nourishment balance of the Western food might be bad. Of course a lot of other foreign players ate. I felt difference between Japan and food culture with the foreign country. I think that Japanese may have a nutritious meal simply because it is a Japanese. Therefore Japan is a longevity country, and there is little obese population. But junk food is popular in Japan. The Japanese should think about nourishment.

4.Popular Japanese food

The most popular Japanese foods are sushi from a foreigner. The foreigner did not have a custom to eat a raw fish until now. But they began to eat under the influence of sushi boom. Because sushi is healthy. As for the foreigner, meat dishes with much fat are main. They have begun to think that sushi is healthier than meat. They know that a Japanese eating a fish is longevity. When the foreigner hold a party, they cook tirashi sushi. But there is the foreigner who does not like laver. Because the black food is rare abroad. In addition, the rolling by hand sushi is popular too. The rolling by hand sushi has pleasure to make by oneself and is one of the popular menus.


Next food popular is tempura. A foreigner loves tempura. The tempura uses vegetables and the seafood. Therefore the tempura is healthy. There is not deep-fried food culture in the West. So tempura is popular. Tempura is popular with the foreigners who do not like a raw fish.


The third is okonomiyaki. Preparation of okonomiyaki is simple and can cook it in large quantities. I watch the foreigner who eats okonomiyaki in a shop even if in Japan. They do not understand how to make. But they have a salesclerk make it and they have eat it. The Japanese use a source and mayonnaise to an appropriate amount. But the foreigner use okonomiyaki a source and large quantities of the mayonnaise. I and customers and salesclerk was surprised not to mention. I felt difference of food culture of between Japanese and the foreigner.

I talk about the experience that visited in the foreign country. When I walked the town, there was billboard of some Japanese food. It was almost a billboard of the sushi. When I entered inside, sushi was fresh visually. Customers came to the shop every day. I understood that it was popular just to look. Besides, sushi was sold in Frankfurt Airport in Germany. Sushi is sold always in the foreign Japanese restaurant. The customer's always orders sushi. But it is not only sushi. Customer order the tempura. I ordered sashimi and tempura in a Japanese restaurant. The taste was very delicious without changing. The countries of origin may be different, but I think that the recipe does not change. I am glad when I look a foreigner eats Japanese foods. Because I think that connected to the people of the world.

3.Japanese food restaurant

The media including TV by effect, a lot of Japanese celebrity cooks playing an active part globally appear. Japan have the four seasons and Japan is blessed with ingredients. The Japanese foods evolve every day and Japanese food become popular in the world. Because Japanese food is healthy and delicious. The Japanese restaurant provides time and place, and it can touch by Japanese foods culture.
There is the Japanese restaurant of about 24,000 stores abroad. Most one is North America. Next is Asia. A lot of Japanese restaurants open a store in the place where there are Japanese-person and Japanese residents abroad. Japanese foods are sushi for many Americans. In the restaurant of New York, there are many stores specializing in sushi. Sushi is handled in other restaurants and cafes. Take-outs of the sushi spread in the supermarket. Japanese food restaurant are popular in Hong Kong. Japanese foods are offered with a family restaurant and belt-conveyor sushi in Thailand.

 Grilling foods on an iron plate to cook in front is popular abroad. The Japanese food of the new sense that increased arrangement of the Western food and the shop where interior decoration is high-quality is popular abroad. A manager of the restaurants is not a Japanese. Most of managers is working a Korean and a Chinese.

I have been to foreign country. I visited Europe and Asia. I have eaten several times in a Japanese restaurant. All the dishes were Japanese food. The salesclerk was a Japanese and a Hungarian. The owner was a Japanese. The salesclerk of the foreigner can speak Japanese. The menu was written by a Romaji. I think the ingredients to use something like Japanese ingredients. Because taste is similar. The miso soup and the tea were taste of Japan. The Japanese restaurant was the best for oneself who got tired of local food. It was delicious so as to cry.


I think the Japanese restaurant is a place letting you feel a hometown for a person staying for a long time abroad. The Japanese restaurant is the place that is very good for a Japanese and a foreigner. The Japanese restaurant can convey the good point of Japanese foods all over the world. I want many people to know the good more Japanese restaurants. I think that visit a Japanese restaurant to more people and want you to eat Japanese foods. I think the Japanese restaurant is wonderful.

2.Food culture

The food culture is formed by a climate and environment of nature. It have a regional and ethnic characteristic. In this way, special Japanese food culture is born. The Japanese food is opposite words of the Western food.


The families who do not make a dish increase recently. Because they depend on eating out. The Japanese food was not cooked at the home, and an overseas dish was cooked at the home. On the other hand, Japanese food is popular abroad and Japanese food is loved by world people.

The sushi is the origin in Southeast Asia. Japanese food culture is in the background culture of China and Korean Peninsula. Japanese food culture became the original thing in Meiji era.

Japanese food culture is supported by blessings of nature. The Japanese foods are healthier than the United States. Therefore Japan is a longevity country. The Japanese food is respect for nature. Seasoning developed by the spread of electric refrigerators. And the kinds of the fish is increased, because the pelagic fishing of development.



They say "itadakimasu" when Japanese people begin to eat dish. They are thank for blessings of nature. A rule of how to use and how to eat chopsticks was decide from old days. The elementary school lunch is time recommended it now. (Eat triangle)

The Japanese people are to cherish a season. They likes seasonal food of the four season. In addition, they are to cherish the seasonal scene. Feel a season is not only it. A pottery can feel a season. But, Japanese food culture is change now. It is westernized. The children who do not eat breakfast increase. The children who do not eat miso soup increase.

I think that the Japanese foods culture is changed. Japan is blessed in nature and environment and a season. There is the good tradition, but does not follow. I think introduce in Western food is good but I think too much introduce it is not good. Because I think a parent does not tell a tradition to a child as a cause. I want children to know the Japanese traditional dish.
I think the Japanese foods have very good culture. I wish to eat dish with thanks. And I want Japanese people to think about more Japanese foods. Because the Japanese foods are splendid. I want to convey food culture to Japanese people.

1.Japanese food history.

Japanese food means dish of the Japanese style. The Japanese food is original developed food in japan.


In Jomon era, they were eaten by hunting and collecting the nuts. Also they were making a millet. They were cooking use a fire and water for many years. They made an earthenware vessel, and heating was enabled. They were taught deep-fried food and tea from China. Japanese food history was began from Jomon.


In Yayoi era, rice was formed food culture.

In Nara era, recipe was conveyed from China. They device it, and Japanese original dish began to appear before long.

In Heian era, cooking technology was undeveloped. The difference between noble and commoner began to appear.

In Kamakura era, a food processing technology was conveyed. They developed soybean and vegetable dish technique. It decided directionality of Japanese foods later.



In Muromachi era became formality to put a dish on a low dining table. Tea ceremony was born by it. Dried bonito was created these time.


Sushi and tempura and soba developed in Edo era. The restaurant which enjoyed eating and drinking appeared. Soy sauce and sugar was invented as seasoning. A Japanese sweet was made by the spread of sugar. Cooking difference began to appear in a district. A dish book called "the dish story" was published for the first time. The circulation became popular in the national scale. Many food were get, and the width of the dish spread out. In this way, culture to enjoy cooking spread out.




A fish and rice are the food which is representative in Japan. Japan is surrounded in the sea. A fish and rice culture were born by abundant water. But, rice growing did not develop in Hokkaido and Okinawa. Because developed meat culture. The culture introduced after the Meiji era.

Consumption of the meat increased, and the image of Japanese foods changed now. A family restaurant and a fast food shop appeared, and the eating out spread to enjoy a meal. In addition, the convenience stores is increase, too. Convenience food is developed eating habits by the spread. Japanese foods are received all over the world now.

I think the Japanese foods come from China. In japan, make a food utilize a climate. Recently Japanese food is lacking quality because the people demand convenience. Thereby, the balance of the meal worsen. From now on, we should think about the food culture like a Japanese.
